When originally placed on this website, the cottage was thought to be Vine Cottage. However, a letter written by Maria Minter to Philip Simmons' grandfather describes this photo and heads her letter 'Rose Cottage, Durlock, Ash'. Vine Cottage was and still is just up the street and was their previous residence. Rose Cottage is currently called Mallard Cottage by its present occupants Michael and Josphine Minter & family who operate Sandilane Nurseries on the land. Philip Simmons says that the photo of Rose Cottage must have been taken in 1889: Henry died in 1890, and baby Elsie was born in 1889.

Arthur was the son of Alfred Randle, who married Jane Minter, daughter of Henry Minter and Maria (Spratt) in 1874. Arthur was a Captain in the Merchant Navy: this picture is endorsed on the back 'Boy Randle, 3rd Officer, Steamer Travia. Sent by Frank L Minter to H B Doyle. To be returned'. Margaret Young comments that the Doyles were close family friends of the Minters in Australia.

Alfred Torrey Minter was born on 20 December 1892, the son of John Henry Minter and Addie Kingman Torrey. This was probably a graduation picture dating from about 1910.

Grace was Charles Daniel Minter's granddaughter. Her mother was Daisy E (Nellie) Minter, born in 1886, who in 1915 married Cecil H Goldup. Grace however spent some part of her infancy as a nurse-child with Michael and Emmeline E Doyle in Dover. She was then adopted by Christine Gardiner's great aunt, Harriet Hignell. Grace grew up with Harriet and became a shorthand typist but sadly she died on 13 April 1929 from TB aged only 19. On the back of one of these photos Harriet wrote 'My Darling Gracie my adopted daughter God Bless her I know she is in Heaven'

Frank Leslie Minter and Lillie nee Cooling had four sons, pictured below.
The left hand photo dates from 1966; from the left are Frank Norman (1914 - 1975), Robert Leslie (1922 - 1993), Derick Edward (1917 - 1998)
and Gordon Cooling (1925 - 2006).
The date of the right hand photo isn't known but is before 1993; from the left are Derick Edward, Robert Leslie,
Gordon Cooling and Frank Norman.
