    Notes
    • 1911 census: Mary Jane (51, single, born East Troy, Wisconsin, USA, British subject by parents) lived at School House, Fresham Avenue, Hackney, London NE (4 rooms), as a companion to the head of the household Sarah PAINE (who signed the form) (57, single, headmistress of an infant school run by the London County Council, born Broadwater, Sussex).

1921 census: at Homeland, Vere Road, St Peter, Kent, Mary MINTER (matron, 62, born State of Wisconsin, resident U.S.America, British) was supervisor of the holiday home at Homeland.
The census form on which Mary's name appears was actually issued in her name. Mary is listed last of the 34 names listed, the first 32 of which were visitors of various ages, mostly yoing but not young children. A bit of research suggests that Homeland was The National Sunday Schools Holiday Home for Children, Vere Road. It appeared as such in the 1929 Isle of Thanet Kelly's Directory.
