Charles Edward Yates Jr., 88, of Fort Worth passed away Monday, Nov. 14, 2011. Funeral: 9:30 a.m. Friday at Arborlawn United Methodist Church, Fort Worth. Interment: 12:30 p.m. Friday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Arborlawn Helping Hands, 5001 Briarhaven Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76109, or to the charity of your choice.
Charlie was born Dec. 17, 1922, in Cisco to Charles and Marjorie Yates. He graduated from Cisco High School in 1941 and joined the Army Air Force in 1943. He was trained as a bombardier in B-24s and flew 50 combat missions in Europe. After the war he attended Texas Tech where he met and married Dorothy Minter in 1948. He was recalled to active duty in 1951 with assignments in B-57s at Laon Air Base, France, and B-52s at Barksdale, Loring and Carswell Air Force Base. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1976 and went to work at the American Airlines Training Center, retiring in 1993. He was preceded in death by a son, Bill W. Yates.
Survivors: Wife of 63 years, Dottie; children, Charlie and wife, Diane Yates, and Vicki Griffin and husband, Dennis; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
