      J. R. Seydler Dies While Traveling To World's Fair

News of the death Sunday morning of J. R. (Buddy) Seydler in Provo, Utah, after he suffered a heart attack while en route to the World's Fair in Seattle reached friends in Baytown Monday.

The veteran annuitant at the Baytown Refinery, who hired in at the refinery on May 11, 1920, became ill while on the trip. Mrs. Seydler was with him at the time.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Paul U. Lee Funeral Home.

Mr. and Mrs. Seydler were the first man and wife team at the Baytown Refinery to retire together. They ended their careers on Dec. 31, 1955, and since then have been living at their home at 1218 E. James.

A native of Shiner community, Seydler left the farm for a job in the oil industry.

He told friends many times he was attracted to the community by news of oil field work. After he got here, he took a refinery job instead in the machine shop. Most of his 35 years and eight months were spent in the mechanical department.

Mrs. Seydler, a native of Altair, near Columbus, Tex., came to Cedar Bayou as a teacher. She went to work for Humble Feb. 18, 1929. From 1929 until her retirement she was in employee relations.

At retirement time Buddy Seydler actually wrote his own epitaph:

"I don't regret a minute of my time in Baytown," he said at his party. "I've never been sorry I came this way. The main reasons are that Humble has been great to work for and Baytown has been a wonderful place to live. The people here just can't be beat."

      Julius's tombstone is engraved "J. R. (BUDDY)) 1897 - 1962"
