Ancestry.com has Robert's service record in connection with a WW1 pension claim. They show that Robert enlisted in the West Kent Regiment on 27 October 1915 giving his age as 24 years 10 months, of 42D St Hughes Road, Anerly. He had a number of epileptic attacks and was discharged as unfit on 26 January 1916. His next-of-kin was his wife Gertrude Alice of the same address.
