- From findagrave.com:
James Robert "Bob" Miller, 100, (Grandpa) of Goodview, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 20, 2012. He was born on February 12, 1911 in the Holly Brook area of Bland County. His parents were James Lorenza Miller and Mellie Rosetta Bird. He was blessed to have two beautiful wives, Christine Mattox and Louise White, both of whom have predeceased him. He outlived all of his five brothers and three sisters. His daughter, Judy Miller St Clair, passed away on May 14, 2010 from cancer. He is survived by one daughter, Shirley Robinson; a son-in-law, Michael St Clair; four grandchildren, Vicky Scaggs and husband, Gary, Tony Martin, David St Clair and wife, Kelly, and Angela St Clair. He also has seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Bob was a devoted member of Beaverdam Baptist Church in Vinton. Bob came to Roanoke from West Virginia at the young age of 20 and, after several short jobs, became a certified barber. He worked at his trade in the Southeast Section of Roanoke for the next 57 years before retiring to Smith Mountain Lake. He was an accomplished musician on the guitar, fiddle, mandolin and harmonica. He enjoyed dancing and entertaining people, and continued doing so into his mid-90s before he began slowing down. Bob was seldom without his harmonica in his latter years and continued to develope a following to his music up until just before his death. A special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Joseph C. Thomas Center at the Richfield Retirement Community in Salem. Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, with pastor Edward "Bish" Creel officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends and family from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 23, 2012, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. Arrangements by Oakey's Vinton Chapel, Vinton.
