Blythe Posey Ashmore Minter of Atlanta passed away on Friday October 2, 2015. She is survived by her two children Gentry Ashmore Hoit and her husband Roger W. Hoit and Blain Ashmore Allen and her husband Ivan Allen, IV, and her six grandchildren, Morgan Landfair Hoit, Jackson Ashmore Hoit, Taylor Gray Upchurch, Jordan Ashmore Upchurch, Ivan Allen V and William Henry Allen.
Mrs. Minter was born in Birmingham, Ala. on February 22, 1935 and was the only child of the late Dr. Walter Brownlow Posey and the late Margaret Grisham Posey of Atlanta. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1953 and the Prealpina School in Chexbres, Switzerland. She participated in the Maryland Program Abroad in 1954 and received her Bachelor of Arts from Agnes Scott College in 1957. Shortly after graduation, Mrs. Minter married the late Jack Pearce Ashmore, Jr., on November 1, 1957. They shared 19 happy years together, including the birth of two daughters and a passion for the Georgia Coastal areas before he passed in 1976. She later married Julian Jasper Minter in the spring of 1994.
As a young woman, Mrs. Minter worked at the Alumni Office at Emory University and later as a Medical Secretary in the Emory University Clinic from 1958-1961. She also enjoyed a career in real estate in the late 1970's. A dedicated volunteer and leader, Mrs. Minter contributed her time and talents to a number of local organizations, including the Gray Lady-Red Cross, Atlanta Junior League, The Atlanta Historical Society, and The Atlanta Speech School. She also served on the Agnes Scott Alumnae Board and the Board of the High Museum of Art as Chair of the Members Drive, Chair of Advisory Planning, Chair and Co-Chair of Tour of Homes and Chair of the Junior Education Committee.
Mrs. Minter was a strong supporter of the Stables at Chastain, where her daughters kept their horse and her granddaughter Taylor rides currently. In addition to advocating and fundraising to help save the stables from closure in the late 1980s, she helped start the first therapeutic riding program there. She took great joy and pride in her garden club, The Cottage Garden Club, and shared her love of flowers by building a rose garden in her front yard so that all who passed by the busy corner where she lived for 45 years could enjoy their beauty. Mrs. Minter was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church for over 50 years and worked with the Altar Guild.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 6 at 11 o'clock in the Chapel at All Saints Episcopal Church, 634 West Peachtree Street, NW, Atlanta with the Reverend Geoffrey Hoare officiating and the Very Reverend Harry H. Pritchett, Jr. assisting. Burial will be private. The family welcomes friends to join them for a reception in celebration of Mrs. Minter's life at the Parish Hall at All Saints Church immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to All Saints Church, 634 West Peachtree Street, NW, Atlanta, GA 30308
