| Notes |
- The inclusion of a family for Richard is speculative, based on the following:
1. the 1911 census shows that an otherwise unknown Minter family was living in 2 rooms at 25 Oakham Street, Chelsea: Mary Minter (head, 52, widow, married 20 years, 3 children 2 living 1 died, laundry hand at Chelsea Union, born Chelsea), Elizabeth Minter (daughter, 19, single, housemaid at a boarding house, born Chelsea) and Richard Minter (son, 17, single, greengrocer, worker, born Chelsea).
- Richard senior had died in 1899 so Mary would have been a widow in 1911. Unfortunately, despite much searching, neither she nor her 2 children have been found in 1901.
- Richard and Mary don't seem to have married so Mary's surname is unknown.
March 2016: It's now clear that Richard's wife was Mary Hannah JACKSON, and that they married in Q4 1895. I think Mary outlived her husband by many years - see her Notes.
- the births of Elizabeth, Richard and John Charles do not appear to have been registered but then this family group wasn't very good about birth registrations!
2. an Elizabeth Minter married in Chelsea in 1914. She was aged 22 and gave her father as Richard Minter deceased.
- this Elizabeth was exactly the right age to have been the Elizabeth referred to at (1) above.
3. a Richard Minter died in Q2 1981: his birth date is shown as 28 January 1893. This death is currently not allocated and probably relates to the Richard referred to at (1) above. Richard probably married in Q4 1923 (the marriage certificate hasn't been obtained).
Apr 2010:John J Minter has found a record at findmypast.com's Chelsea Pensioner collection which appears to refer to Richard:
RICHARD MINTER born c1864 - Chelsea, London, Middlesex.
Attested aged 19yrs 5 mo on the 19th of October, 1883 - The Rifle Brigade (Prince Consort's Own)
