Margaret S. Bartow
Age 75 of Satsuma Florida, died peacefully with her family on Seneca Lake, NY on July 30th, 2015.
Margaret (Meg) was born August 1, 1939 in Ipswich, England. She was a beloved child of Maude Minter, sister to Peter Minter (Meg), loving and devoted wife to Harold (Harry) Bartow, and exceptional mother to nine children. Margaret moved to Watkins Glen, NY with her family in 1970 from Ipswich, England. She spent her years in Watkins Glen raising her children and transforming a 50-acre landscape into a self-sustaining farm raising animals, planting organic vegetable gardens, and stewarding a habitat for a multitude of wildlife. She was a unique individual and a graceful force who taught her family to fight for what they believe in, and to enjoy life fully but with respect. Knowledge was her beacon, and she could always be found with a book or a crossword puzzle in hand.
After raising her children, Meg earned a Master's Degree in Education from Elmira College. She went on to teach in the Watkins Glen School District for 12 years before retiring to Florida with her husband. She had a great passion for teaching and was beloved by her students and colleagues alike for her genuine interest in sharing knowledge and empowering individuals.
She is pre-deceased by her first child and daughter, Gay Bartow. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 58 Years; children Sandra Bartow, Angela Baker (Bill), Clayton Bartow, Fiona Gibson (Martin), Peter Bartow (Solange), Paul Bartow (Martha), Philip Bartow, and Sarah Bartow; grandchildren, Nicole Gibson, Kyle Gibson, Stuart Bartow (Jillian), and Margaret Bartow-Cannon; great grandchildren, Charlee Bartow, Camryn Bartow, and Remy Bartow: and wonderful nieces and nephews; Mandy Pryar (David), Ken Minter (Christine), Taylor, Megan, and Claire Minter.
Margaret was a champion for all of her family's endeavors and especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren who were a great joy in her life. She has left an incredible mark on those who knew her and she will be forever missed by her family and friends.
A private celebration of her life will be held in New Jersey and England at a later date with her family. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in her honor to the Humane Society of Schuyler County.
