| Notes |
- From ancestry.com via Gilliian Green, August 2009: an Amos Minter, age not stated, was sentenced to 2 months imprisonment on 28 June 1853 at the General Quarter Sessions, Chelmsford, Essex, having been found guilty of larceny. It's not clear whether this related to this Amos but he is the only Minter of that name known to be of Essex at that time.
August 2014: the above is more or less confirmed by Darren Bedingfield, who writes in his history of the Boxted Minters:
one of [Edward Minter's] numerous grandsons Amos Minter stole a peck of potatoes from a local farm ... claiming economic hardship had driven him to it and subsequently absconded to London he was apprehended by the authorities when retuning to Boxted to visit friends several months later: Amos's father John and Edward himself were asked to pay bail for him to secure a speedy trial so as not to lose his new job in the capital. It was to no avail; Amos was sentenced to three months hard labour at her majesty Queen Victoria's pleasure by Colchester magistrates in July 1853."
