Son of the late Jesse Emmett Minter, Jr. and Ramona Jane Minter. He graduated from Ponca City High School with the class of 1974.
Immediately after graduation he attended Auto Mechanic classes at Pioneer Area Vo-Tech. He then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he had an Auto Repair Business and enjoyed his part-time career as a musician playing the bass guitar, steel guitar, trombone, and piano. After moving to LaCombe, Louisiana, he settled into a home on Lake Ponchatrain creating a successful auto repair business and becoming an accomplished musician. His love for music was very strong and had many professional contacts in the music industry, Ronnie Dunn, John Ellisons, Joey Welz, Gene Gunulfsen, Henry Harrington, Ronnie Miley and many more. He was recognized as one of the best bass guitar players in the area and had a "lifetime" booking at a club in New Orleans, he will be truly missed by his music family.
Gary, as many in the Louisiana area, endured a very difficult year rebuilding his life after the devastating effects of Katrina. His auto repair and musicians jobs were destroyed in the hurricane. Gary showed greater strength than many. He rolled-up his sleeves and pitched into the rebuilding effort of the Louisiana area. He had just begun his musical career again, which was one of his greatest loves, and was rebuilding his auto repair shop. Gary also enjoyed boating, fishing and restoring classic cars.
He has many friends in Louisiana and Oklahoma, who were extremely important and loved by him. We shall remember him always for his great spirit, infectious sense of humor, attitude, strength, and great dedication to family and friends. Gary never gave into the great challenges he faced and was an inspiration to us all. He certainly was a great man, one that makes you proud. We will miss you.
Gary is survived by one son, Dustin Schmidt, two sisters, Linda Minter Wegener of Tempe, AZ (spouse Steve Wegener), and Lisa Minter Sidbury of San Antonio, TX (spouse Mick Sidbury), one brother Billy Minter of Tulsa, OK (spouse Nancy Minter) There are four nephews, five nieces, one great-nephew, and one great-niece.
