  Notes	February 2017. I've long wondered about Maurice's first wife who was only known to me (from stories within the family) as Betty. I found today that Northern Ireland BMDs are now online (at https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk/) and looked to see if I could find Maurice's marriage, which was said to have taken place in Lisburn, date unknown. My search produced only one hit which turns out to be the right one: Reg no. M/1941/S1/1167/9/97, Registration District Craigavon, married by license at Holy Trinity Church Waringstown, Donaghcloney, date of marriage 16 May 1941, groom Maurice John Gregory, 22, bachelor, staff sergeant, RAOC of Donaghcloney, father Charles Bernard Gregory, pattern maker, bride Evelyn Mary Crookshanks, 21, spinster of Donaghcloney, father Samuel John Crookshanks, retired. Both parties signed (Maurice in his familiar backward-sloping hand) as did the witnesses Alfred A Wade and Jean Poots. A further search, this time at Ancestry produced what is almost certainly Evelyn's birth: Eveleen (sic) Mary Crookshanks born 1n Q3 1919; Lurgan Registration District 1/613. A search at NI Direct for Maurice's son and daughter didn't yield any results. Another unknown is what became of Evelyn. I don't know how long Maurice was in the army. I can't find him in post-war London Electoral Registers until 1953, when he was living with his mother at 13 Hastings Road, Ealing. He can be found there in successive Electoral Rolls up to 1965. At no time is Gudie listed, presumably because she wasn't eligible to vote.
