  Notes	From findagrave.com, Aug 2015: Funeral services for Gladys Simmons will be conducted Monday, September 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from the First Baptist Church of Elk City with Dr. Russell Duck and Rev. Danny Ringer officiating. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home of Elk City. Gladys Evelyn (Minter) Simmons was born August 3, 1936 at Idabel, OK to Otho and Deta (Pollard) Minter and went to be with our Lord on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at the age of 77. She graduated from Idabel High School and continued her education at Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater. Gladys met the love of her life and her soul mate, J. R. Simmons while in college. They were married on January 27, 1956 and to this union 4 children were born, Steve, Cyndie, Mike and Misty. Gladys was a devoted Mom and Homemaker. She enjoyed many clubs and activities and had a love for golf and traveling to many places with family and friends. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Elk City Golf and Country Club, Elks Lodge, Garden Club and Investment Group. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Elk City, serving the Lord as a cook, nursery worker, Sunday School Teacher and Vacation Bible School. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, J. R., and a sister, Betty Jo Spencer. Survivors include 4 children: Steve Simmons and his wife Kathy of Foss. Cyndie Bruce and her husband Steve, Mike Simmons and his wife Terri, Misti DeGarmo and her husband Danny all of Elk City, 10 grandchildren, Brandi Lewis and her husband Justin, Josh Simmons and his wife Margie, Fallon Mendez, Krystal Uecke and her husband Jason, Chaz Simmons, J. J. Simmons and his wife Carrie, Sonny Simmons, Tina Degarmo, Riley Simmons, Kimi Degarmo, a brother, Sonny Minter and his wife Glenna of Idabel, OK and a host of other relatives and friends.
