      Arthur and his cousin Stanley were both in the 4th Battalion of the Suffolk Regiment when it was part of the mass surrender of Singapore in 1942. Both became Prisoners of War and both died in 1943, Arthur of diarrhoea on 26 September, three months after Stanley.
