Notes	For information about Scruggs Minter's early life, see his father's Notes. I've drawn on the "Barker Family Tree" owned by MMMSR, at Ancestry.com for details of Scruggs' children. [Note in October 2024: I can't find this tree now.] 1840 census. Despite searching carefully through the census records of both the Southern and Northern Districts of Buckingham County, I can't find an 1840 census record for Scruggs (or indeed any Minter). However, there is a record for Catherine Minter in Fluvanna County which indicates the she was between 50 and 60 and had a male aged between 15 and 20 living with her. There is no record for Scruggs in Fluvanna. His absence from the 1840 census suggests he had died before 1840. There are two other 1840 census records for Minters in Fluvanna County: - John Minter (aged 80 - 89, no slaves). No idea who he was. - Benjamin Minter (2 males between 20 and 29, 1 female between 15 and 19). Not clear but probably Scruggs' children. The 1850 census shows: in District 1, Buckingham, Virginia (in the order shown, all MINTER, all born Virginia) Jacob (28, cooper), Catherine (63), Catherine (34), Martha (17) and Esau (28, cooper). On another page, still in Buckingham, was Joseph Minter (52, labourer). He was living with Sarah BAINS (64) and four younger BAINS.
