| Notes |
- Henry was originally Henry Smith whose birth was possibly that registered at Windsor in Q1 1847 (6/303). He appears to have been 'adopted' by Hannah Minter - see her Notes for the rationale for this assumption.
He appears in censuses as follows:
- As Henry SMITH:
1851: aged 5, orphan, pauper in the Windsor Union Workhouse.
1861: not found although there is a page in the census of Windsor Union Workhouse that is torn, leaving the surname 'Smith', a 13 year-old boy born Old Windsor. The name above is '---n Smith', a 45 year-old widow.
1871: at 76 Picton Street, St Giles Camberwell, London, aged 26, general dealer, born Windsor, Berks. Noted as having club feet from birth. On the line above is the entry for Hannah Minter.
- As Henry MINTER:
1881: at 37 Kimpton Road, Camberwell, Henry (33, watchman, born Old Windsor) and Mary (wife, 31, born Durham).
1891: not found.
Henry's wife appears to have died in 1894.
1901: aged 64 (sic), widower, born Windsor, Berks, a mendicant in the Camberwell Workhouse.
Henry died in 1908. His age is given as 66.

- Banns were called on 2, 9 and 16 December 1877 at St John the Evangelist, Walworth. Mary's name is shown on the banns form (in the London Metropolitan Archive at Ancestry.co.uk) as Mary Ann Stout. The marriage to Mary Jane Stout took place at a different church nearly a year later but I think we can assume that the same woman was involved.
Married on 4 December 1878 after banns. Henry Minter, full age, bachelor, watchman of 227 Beresford Street, father Minter, shoe-maker. Mary Jane Stout, full age, spinster of 227 Beresford Street, father Matthew Stout, tailor. Both signed full names. Witnesses James D---- (sign), Ann Ward (mark).
