Minter, Jr., 87, will be held Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at Kilbourne Park Baptist Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Mr. Minter died Monday, May 4, 2009. Born in Greenville, S.C., he was a son of the late William Sumter Minter, Sr. and Roberta Carter Minter. Mr. Minter was a member of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church, where he was a former chairman of the Board of Deacons, chairman of the Finance Committee and was a Sunday School teacher. He graduated from Wofford College, earned his CLU designation from Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and taught LUTC Life Underwriters Training Classes. Mr. Minter spent his career in the life insurance industry and retired as Executive Vice-President of Siebels Bruce. He was later Chairman of the Board of Carolina Properties, of Greenlawn Memorial Park and various investment partnerships. He was past president of Spring Valley Country Club and was a member of Palmetto Club and the Summit Club. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Beverly McManus Minter; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Sue Minter; grandsons, Will Minter, IV and John Minter, all of Columbia; sisters-in-law, Betty M. Harkins of Columbia and Alli P. Minter of Glen Allen, Va.; two nieces; one nephew; and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, George B. Minter. Memorials may be made to Wofford College, 429 North Church Street, Spartanburg, S.C. 29303-3663 or a charity of one's choice.
