| Notes |
- It's possible that the 1828 marriage to Thomas John CHAMBERS was of a different Sarah Minter, or that Thomas died quite soon after the marriage, or that the marriage broke down. Because it's clear that in 1841 Sarah married John McKERN.
In the parish register entry for the 1841 marriage, Sarah is described as a spinster of Pratt Street, Lambeth, father William Minter, malster.
It seems likely that Sarah and John McKERN were together before they married - when Louisa Maria McKERN was baptised in 1837 her parents were shown as John Fitzwalter and Sarah McKERN. That said, it's possible that John was married to a Sarah before marrying Sarah Minter. But no death registration for a Sarah McKERN has been found, and when he married in 1841 John described himself as a bachelor.
The 1841 census suggests that John and Sarah may have got together around 1833/4, since the oldest child appearing on the census in 1841 was 7 years old. All the children shown in the 1841 census have (rightly or wrongly) been associted with John and Sarah.
No census entry has been found for 1861 but Sarah appears, as a widow, in 1871 and 1881. Perhaps the family spent time in Ireland in the interim.
1841 census: in Pratt Street, Lambeth (all McKERN), John (40, short hand writer, born Ireland), Sarah (30, not born Surrey), Henry (7, born Surrey), Clara (5, born Surey), Louisa (3, born Surrey) and Julia (1, born Surrey).
1851 census: in Union Street, Lambeth, John McKERN (head, 53, short hand writer, born Ireland), Louisa McKERN (daughter, 13, born Newington, Surrey) and Emma McKERN (daughter, 6, born Hoxton, Middlesex).
1871 census: in Frederick Terrace, Hackney, Sarah McKERN (head, widow, 61, born Canterbury), Chas (son, unmarried, 20, warehouseman, born London), Clara WILLIAMS (daughter, married, 24, born Lambeth) and a visitor, Sarah A BUSH (unmarried, 21, general servant, born Canterbury).
1881 census: at 43 Brooklands Road, Lambeth, Sarah MCKERN (head, widow, 71, retired nurse, born Canterbury).
Sarah died in Q4 1881.
