And a boarder Geo Edgar SMIRK (single, 29). As a Detective Constable, Charles Dixon was involved in The Tottenham Outrage of 23 January 1909, an armed robbery in Tottenham, North London, that resulted in a two-hour chase between the police and armed criminals over a distance of six miles (10 km), with an estimated 400 rounds of ammunition fired by the thieves. [The incident is described at length in a Wikipedia article]. DC Dixon and two other officers were awarded the King's Police Medal in recognition of their bravery. Horkesley, Essex, enquiry officer, Dr Barnardos Homes, 18/26 Stepney Causeway, London E1), Sarah A (wife, 58y 3m, married, born Gt. Horkesley, Essex, home duties), Horace H (son, 26y 7m, single, born Ponders End, Middlesex, Civil Service clerk at New Scotland Yard, Westminster), Albert S (son, 30y 10m, married, born Gt. Hornsey, Middlesex, fire insurance with Liverpool & London & Globe Insce. Co Ltd, 1 Albert Square, Manchester), Muriel (daughter in law, 29, married, born Tottenham, Middlesex, home duties), Geoffrey C (grandson, 2y 9m, born Tottenham, Middlesex) and Margaret (granddaughter, 2 months, born Ipswich, Suffolk). Despite much searching, I cannot find Charles's death. His Metropolitan Police Pension record doesn't show it, neither do the few records that exist in the National Archives and Ancestry.com relating to Charles's police service. The fact that I can't find Charles in the 1939 Register suggests he died between 1926 (he was apparently alive when his wife died) and 1939.
