- Ancestry.com has Arthur's service records in connection with his claim for a disability pension. They show that from the time he signed up in December 1915 until his demob on 6 April 1919 his address was 2 Trinity Square, Borough, London SE. Arthur gave his birth date as 26 January 1891 and his next of kin as his mother, Mary Minter, same address.
Arthur was posted to France on 24 January 1917 as a private number 529141 in the Labour Corps and was there until May 1917. He is noted as having gone AWOL from 27 to 28 January 1917. He spent the rest of his army years in England in the London Rifle Brigade. He was awarded the British War Medal in January 1922.
Arthur's disability was deafness. When examined at Aldershot on 7 March 1919 he was found to be "less than 20% disabled", of which 10% was judged to have existed before he joined up.
