    Notes
    • THE HENRY BULLETIN, Martinsville, Va., Tue., April 21, 1931, p. 6, col. 1. Funeral services for the late J. F. Eggleston, who died Saturday at his home here, were conducted from the First Baptist church Sunday afternoon by Elder Wilson of Danville and Elder D. P. Helms of Bassett. Interment was made in the Bassett cemetery. The active pall bearers were John Hawkins, Sam Johnson, Charlie Eggleston, Joe Minter and Russell Johnson. The decease, who was 72 years of age, had been in declining health for a number of years, and his death, which was due to a complication of diseases, was not entirely unexpected. He was a native and lifelong resident of this community, where he was held in the highest esteem by his many friends. Surviving are his widow, who was Miss Mary Lacy of the Oak Level neighborhood, two sons, J. A. Eggleston of Bassett, and Frank M. Eggleston of Danville: two daughters, Mrs. Ezra Tuttle of Winston-Salem, and Mrs. G. S. Nunn of West Virginia: a brother, N. B. Eggleston, of Lexington, N.C., and four sisters, Mrs. John Bowles of Pearsiburg; Mrs. George Minter and Mrs. John Winn of Martinsville, and Mrs. Martha Shumate of Leaksville, besides a number of nieces and nephews. Among the relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. O. P. Williams, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Thompson and Mrs. R. D. Hurd, all of Roanoke.
A tribute written "written by a son" appeared in the paper dated 4/21/1931, p. 6, col. 3, and added that he was married in 1880 to Mary J. Lacy.
