Notes |
- 1871 census: in Pantile Estate, Hampton, Middlesex, George (26, carter, coal merchant's, born Great Horkesley), Hester (24, born Berghalt, Suffolk (sic)), Frank (4, scholar, born Berghalt, Suffolk (sic)), Sarah A M (1, born Hampton, Middlesex) and a visitor, Thomas LIGHT (5, born Hampton Wick, Middlesex).
1881 census: in Brick Kiln Lane, Great Horkesley, George (36, ag lab, born Great Horkesley), Hester (34, born Hampton, Middlesex *), Frank (14, born Hampton, Middlesex), Mary (12, scholar, born Hampton, Middlesex), William (9, scholar, born Hampton, Middlesex), Sarah E (7, scholar, born Great Horkesley), Eliza M (5, scholar, born Great Horkesley), Margaret E (3, born Great Horkesley), Amy L (1, born Great Horkesley) and Mary (76, mother, widow, born Langham, Essex).
In 1891 George (49, agricultural labourer) and Hester (44, laundress, born East Bergholt (although other sources say Hampton *)) were living at Brick Kiln Lane cottage with William J. (24?, engine cleaner, born New Hamton (sic)), Sarah E. (17, laundress, born GH), Margaret E. (13, born GH), Amy (11, born GH), Birty J. (9, born GH) and Percy A. (7, born GH).
Eliza Maud not found after 1881.
* Research into Hester's family gives ample evidence that Hester was born in East Bergholt, Suffolk. The reference to Hampton in 1881 looks simply to have been a mistake.
In 1901 George (57) and Hester (54) were still there, together with Margaret E. (23), Amy L. (21) and Percy (16). Dora Page aged 5, their grand-daughter, was also in the house.
1911 census (found in Findmypast under MINDER): in Brick Kiln Lane, Great Horkesley, Essex (4 rooms), George (head, 68, widower, 9 children, 7 living 2 died, gardener, worker, at home, born Great Horkesley, Essex) and Margaret (daughter, 33, single, laundress, worker, at home, born Great Horkesley, Essex).
Form signed george Minter.
