Ron Minter of Penryn, Cornwall wites (September 2006): This pub is located (according to online info on Colchester) near to the Red Light district of that Victorian time!!! Also strangely, when I worked in Colchester (1965-1972) I sometimes went to this pub in the lunchtime with work colleagues. Were my ancestors calling me? I don't know whether I believe in ghosts, but.... Another Colchester pub, the Clarence in Trinity Street, was run by William Tyler's brother-in-law (ie Elizabeth's brother), William Minter and his wife Emma Minter (nee Bryant). 1871 census: at 5 Artillery Street, St James Colchester, William TYLER (68, annuitant) and Elizabeth TYLER (67).
