      Heen Ryding, of Hargreaves Street, Paddington, has to thank Constable Hardy, of the Water Police, and her friend. Pearl Gallantry, of 201 Hargreaves Street, for her life.
      Constable Hardy, having a day off, was idling away the time fishing from a jetty at Nielson Park, while a partv of young convent girls had come to the beach with some of the Sisters for a school breaking-up picnic. Many girls In the water were enjoying themselves Immensely, when Pearl Gallantry excitedly shouted: "Help! Help! She's drowning !"
      Miss Gallantry was supportng Neen Ryding 30 yards from the beach, while she called out for assistance. The glrls were a long way out, and the position, for a moment, looked serious for them.
      Hardy, however, had been attracted by Miss Gallantry's cries for assistance, and ran to the end of the jetty and dived into the water. Swimming strongly, he soon reached the girls just in time to prevent Miss Rydlng from drowning, by seizing her by the halr as she sank. The constable brought the girl thirty yards to the beach. Her companion was able to return without assistance.
      Life-savers C. Cook and Robert Burns restored animatlon to Miss Rydlng on the beach.
