      Darren Bedingfield has found two newspaper artcles referring to James. The following are transcriptions from the original cuttings:

      30 October 1835, Essex Standard
      The CHAIRMAN then proceeded with the distribution of the prizes as follows:-
      James Minter, servant to Mr W Partridge, of Hoekesley, 2nd prize, 2l [£2], for having brought up 9 children without any relief from the parish, except about 22 years ago, when flour was 6s. or 7s. a peck.

      5 February 1847, Chelmsford Chronicle
      At the Castle, on Saturday, two young fellows, named Elijah Stow and Robert Johnson, were fully committed for trial, charged with stealing a spade and a mattock, the property of James Minter, an aged labourer, in the employ of Mr W Partridge, of Great Horkesley. Both prisoners admitted their guilt.

      Darren comments that Elijah Stow was later imprisoned for assaulting Harriet Dobson's father.

      James was buried aged 82.
