| Notes |
- As he moved through life, Enos became Enos William, then William Enos. The NSW death index shows name as Enos William ROBERTS
The NSW death index includes the death in 1929 of Enos ROBERTS, father Enos, mother Marjorie J ROBERTS - presumably a child that died in infancy.
From Trove, as published in the Newcastle Morning Herald and Miners' Advocate on 17 May 1935:
"DESERTION.
Marjorie Joyce Roberts (formerly Davis), of Darby-street, Newcastle, sought a dissolution of her marriage with Enos Roberts, on the ground of desertion. Mr. P. H. Monkley, appeared for the petitioner.
The parties were married on December 15, 1928, at Newcastle, according to the rites of the Church of England. There was one child.
The issues were found in favour of the petitioner."
I haven't found Enos ROBERTS' marriage to Mavis Beryl, but she appeared with him on electoral rolls between 1935 and 1937, as follows:
Australia, Electoral Rolls, 1903-1980 (ancestry.com)
1935 - at 205 Norton Street, Ashfield, Parkes, NSW - Enos William ROBERTS (milk carter), Mavis Beryl ROBERTS (home duties)
1936 - at 23 Cross Street, Strathfield, Parkes, NSW - William Enos ROBERTS (heaterman), Mavis Beryl ROBERTS (home duties)
1937 - at 17 Yandarlo Street, Enfield, Parkes, NSW - William Enos ROBERTS (labourer), Mavis Beryl ROBERTS (home duties)
It appears that Mavis Beryl died in 1942 - the following appeared (per Trove) in the Sydney Morning Herald on 3 June 1942:
"ROBERTS. - The Relatives and Friends of Mr. WILLIAM ENOS ROBERTS, Mr. H. J. GORDON, MABEL (Mrs. R. WILCOX), MELBA (Mrs. S. JONES), Mr. and Mrs. ERIC GORDON, and Mr. and Mrs. NELSON GORDON, are invited to attend the Funeral of his dearly beloved WIFE, his loved DAUGHTER, and their dear SISTER, Mavis Beryl: to leave the Metropolitan Funeral Home. Railway Parade, Burwood. THIS DAY. after a Service commencing at 2 p.m., for the Church of England Cemetery, Rookwood. METROPOLITAN BURIAL and CREMATION SOCIETY.Railway Parade. Burwood. UJ2178-9"
From Trove, as published in The Newcastle Sun on 12 August 1947:
"SULLIVAN v SULLIVAN.
In the Newcastle Divorce Court today Kenneth Charles Sullivan, packer, of Laman Street, Cook's Hill, said that his wife visited him only twice during the seven months he was In the Military Hospital, Concord.
Sullivan petitioned for a divorce from Olive Jean Isabel Sullivan (formerly Warren), of Roscoe Street, Bondi, on the ground of her adultery with William Enos Roberts, also of Roscoe Street, Bondl.
On the first occasion, he added, he was visited by his wife and the co-respondent, and on the second occasion by his wife and daughter.
Sullivan said his wife told him that Roberts had been boarding at their home in Laman Street while he was away in the forces. He and his wife argued about Roberts. His wife and Roberts left the house in 1945.
Inquiry agent Donald Rees described how he saw Mrs. SuJHvan and the co-respondent
together in a flat in Sydney. Both confessed to having committed adultery. Roberts, asked to write a confession of adultery. said: "That's O.K. by me. I love her."
Mr. G. W. McDonald appeared for petitioner."
From Trove, as published in the Newcastle Morning Herald and Miners' Advocate on 13 August 1947:
"SULLIVAN v SULLIVAN.
Two confessions of adultery were produced when Kenneth Charles Sullivan, packer, of Laman-street, Cook's Hill, was granted a decree nisi against Olive Jean Isabel Sullivan, formerly Warren, of Roscoe-street, Bondi, on the ground of her adultery with William Enos Roberts also of Roscoe-street, Bondi. Mr. G. W. McDonald (Messrs. Johnson and
McDonald) appeared for petitioner.
Sullivan said that on November 30, 1945, he returned home to find his wife had gone away with Roberts. He and Don Rees, a private inquiry agent saw them in a flat at Bondi.
Roberts was ordered to pay the costs."
