| Notes |
- 1911 census: with brother Arthur (qv).
The following is taken from a document written by Nick Metcalfe, October 2011:
Born in 1894 at Huntingfield, Suffolk. Worked as a grocer & draper for his brother Arthur. Enlisted January 1916 into the Army Service Corps as a mechanical transport driver. Died at Calgary, Canada in 1962.
ancestry.com's Canadian Passenger Lists, 1865 -1935 include Rufus, aged 25, and Francis, aged 24 arriving at New Brunswick, Saint John, Canada in April 1920. They travelled on SS Scandinavian. Rufus and Francis completed arrival cards on 3 March 1920 saying they were taking up farming and carried with them £100 and £200 respectively. They planned to visit their brother in Edmonton, Alberta.
The census carried out by the Dominion Bureau of Statistics in June 1926 (copy supplied by Mike Minter) shows, in Gilt Edge, Alberta (Electoral District Battleriver 41), two people named Minter. The name of the first, the head of the household, is indecipherable but appears to end "...uce". It refers to a male aged 33 who arrived in Canada in 1920 and must therefore refer to Rufus. The second Minter is Lillian, sister of [Rufus], aged 36, arrived in Canada in 1925.
I'm grateful to Mike Minter for the following:
