| Notes |
- Birth also appears on the IGI as 22 Jan 1917 at Blackrock, Cork - possibly Robert's baptism.
Birth certificate shows father's occupation as First Class Corporal, RN, HMS 'Impregnable'. Navy record shows Robert was on this ship between 27 June 1915 and 14 February 1917.
June 2013: an email from Michael Westcott says Robert is believed to have died in an air raid on Oreston, Plymouth 1 January 1941. Michael says that he was told of Robert's death by his (Michael's) mother.
June 2018: in an email, Julie Minter says:
"Robert did not die as my cousin Michael Westcott recounts. The family history is a tad convoluted and confusing but Robert was born shortly before his mother Edith Crane died, and was sent to live with family in Blackrock Ireland (the Coaths). He was known as Roy and the separate entry [now deleted - JM*] for a Roy Minter is a duplication. Robert/Roy as Michael says died in the late 1960s. Robert/Roy was not a brother to Thomas Henry Minter (my father) and I am sure of that as my father had no siblings.
The entry against Robert Arthur Albert Minter for his date and cause of death are therefore incorrect. The person who died on that date was a stepson to Robert Harness Minter as a result of his 3rd marriage to Amy Munroe Goodman. It was Amy’s son who died in the air raid as follows:
R E GOODMAN Civilian Fire Watcher. Robert Edward Goodman of 2 Arundel Terrace, Oreston. Son of Amy Munroe Minter (formerly Goodman). Born in in Devizes in the September Quarter of 1920. Injured 13 January 1941 at 2 Arundel Terrace, Oreston; died the same day at the Plymstock First Aid Post aged 20.
My father, Thomas Henry Minter, was with Robert Goodman at the time of his death."
* Note by John Minter: the now-deleted record for Roy Minter carried the following note:
"Michael Westcott has said (June 2013): My late mother Charlotte Doris ... [had] ... a half brother Roy who lived and died (in the 60's I believe) in Blackrock.
Roy I believe died from injuries sustained in a house fire at the Blackrock home. He was a bachelor and lived on his own. My mother and Thomas sold the property to a firm of lawyers in Cork …
I only met him once when I was about 5yrs of age. I recall that at that time he did some watch repair work, lived with an older couple named Coath I believe and that his next door neighbours were called Preston."
The information in this note has now (June 2018) been superseded by information from Julie Minter, but is preserved for the record.
