It seems likely that Henry Minter left Elizabeth and his two sons and took up another life in London: In 1891(indexed by ancestry.com as MINKE) at 70 Packington Street, Islington was Henri MINTRE (36, foreman bootmaker [note that Henry was in the shoe trade in 1881], born Norwich), Ellen MINTRE (wife, 25, born Great Yarmouth) and daughters Nellie MINTRE (2) and Florence MINTRE (1), both born Islington. In 1901 at 6 Brown Street, Walthamstow, London were (all with the surname MINTRE) Henri (46, manager shoe trade), Ellen (36, born Great Yarmouth), daughters Nellie (12) and Florence (11), both born London, and son Frederick (6 born Walthamstow). Also Henri's sister in law Mary RUDRAM or RUDRUM (widow, 30, bead worker shoe trade, born Yarmouth) and her son George (6, born Walthamstow). Nellie's birth was registered in Q3 1888 at Islington 1b/304, Florence's in Q1 1890 at Islington 1b/386 and Frederick's in Q3 1894 at West Ham 4a/292), all as MINTRE. [The name of Henri's sister-in-law, Mary RUDRAM/RUDRUM is a clue to Ellen's identity. She must have been Ellen RUDRAM, birth registered as Ellen Humphrey RUDRAM in Q1 1865 at Yarmouth.] 1911 census (1): at 56 Pembroke Road, Walthamstow, London (1 room), Henri MINTRE (head, 55, widower *, foreman, shoe factory, worker, born Norwich, Norfolk). Form signed Henri Mintre. 1911 census (2): at 82 Somerset Road, Walthamstow, London (3 rooms), Ellen MINTER (head, 44, widow *, 3 children all living, born Great Yarmouth, Norfolk), Nelly MINTER (daughter, 22, single, machinist, blouse making &c, worker, born Islington)), Florence MINTER (daughter, 21, single, machinist, blouse making &c, worker, born Islington)) and Frederick Arthur MINTER (son, 16, single, apprentice, drapery, worker, born Walthamstow, Essex). Form signed Ellen Minter. * Henry/Henri and Ellen had evidently parted company. It seem clear they never married - on her form, Ellen left the 'years married' space blank.
