From Janet Minter, September 2008: Reg Minter died 19 May 1949 in Islington N.S.W. hitting a telegraph pole after suffering a heart attack. At the time he was driving the big trucks for the BHP. He was buried 21 May 1949 at Sangate Cemetery, N.S.W. At the time he and the children were living in disused horse stables at Adamstown.

The Argus of Melbourne ran a story on this on 23 May 1949:
      BENEFACTORS AID FAMILY IN DISTRESS

SYDNEY, Sun: Two Newcastle men today offered to care for four boys of a family of eight children who were virtually orphaned by their father's death last Thursday. Several other people today gave food and money to assist the family.
Reginald S. Minter, of Narara rd, Adamstown, was found dead behind the wheel of a truck which crashed head-on into a telephone post at Newcastle on Thursday. Mr and Mrs Minter separated several years ago.
For the past 18 months Minter and his children had lived in a leaky two-roomed humpy at Adamstown. The eldest daughter, Mrs Nix, who had looked after them, is in hospital, where her baby daughter was bom last Friday night.
