  Notes	Baptismal record at familysearch.com shows parents as Joseph & Elizabeth HALL. When he married in 1871 William gave his father's name as Joseph. 1851 census: in Loft Street South, Great Grimsby, Lincolnshire, William HALL (head, unmarried, 36, tailor & draper, born Leeds, Yorkshire), Eliza SCOTT (housekeeper, married, 25, housekeeper, born Tasmania, Australia) and Eliza SCOTT (daughter to housekeeper, 1, born Great Grimsby). Research shows that "Eliza SCOTT" was Susanna Elizabeth LUCAS, who married George Edward SCOTT in Q3 1845 at All Saints, Sculcoates, Yorkshire (marriage registered at Sculcoates in Q3 1845 ref 2/434). The marriage cannot have lasted long - not only was Susanna Elizabeth living with William HALL at the time of the 1851 census (see below), but the birth of the 'daughter to housekeeper' was actually registered as Susannah Elizabeth Hall SCOTT at Caistor Registration District in Q4 1849 (ref 14/308), with mother's maiden name given as LUCAS. I haven't discovered what became of George Edward SCOTT, but William and Susanna married in 1871, she as a widow. Up until then they were living as a married couple so Susanna was always shown in censuses as married with the surname HALL. Her maiden name, LUCAS, appeared on the index records of all her and William's children An interesting aspect of Susanna is that she consistently said she was from Australia, although the actual place varied from census to census. Much to my surprise, I found Susanna's baptism at the LINC section of the Tasmanian family history part of the website http://www.justice.tas.gov.au. See Susanna's Notes for details of the baptism. A further surprise is that Susanna must have come to England with all her family - in the 1851 census they lived at Drypool, Yorkshire. An even bigger surprise is that Susanna's parents had with them two grandchildren named SCOTT. 1861 census: at 1 Russell Street, Rotherhithe, London (all HALL), William (head, married, 46, outfitter, born Leeds, Yorkshire), Susanna E (wife, married, 36, born South Australia), Susanna E (daughter, 11, scholar, born Grimsby, Lincs), Mary Ann (daughter (9, scholar, born Grimsby, Lincs), William F (son, 6, scholar, born Grimsby, Lincs) and Charles R (son, 4, scholar, born Grimsby, Lincs). 1871 census: at 34 Russell Street, Rotherhithe, London (all HALL), William (head, married, 56, ship chandler, born Leeds, Yorkshire), Susana E (wife, married, 45, born New South Wales), Susanna E (daughter, 21, born Grimsby, Lincs), William F (son, 16, ships brokers clerk, born Grimsby, Lincs), Charles R (son, 14, scholar, born Grimsby, Lincs), Arthur J (son, 9, scholar, born Rotherhithe), Bertha (daughter, 6, scholar, born Rotherhithe) and Edwin L (son, 3, born Rotherhithe). 1881 census: at 16 Acacia Grove, Camberwell, London (all HALL), William (head, married, 64, clerk/commercial, born Leeds, Yorkshire), Susanna E (wife, married, 54, born Van Diemans Land (Tasmania)), Elizabeth S (daughter, 31, born Grimsby, Lincs), William F (son, 26, clerk/commercial, born Grimsby, Lincs), Charles R (son, 24, clerk/commercial, born Grimsby, Lincs), Arthur J (son, 19, clerk/commercial, born Rotherhithe), Bertha (daughter, 16, pupil teacher, born Rotherhithe) and Edwin (son, 13, scholar, born Rotherhithe). 1891 census: now widowed, Elizabeth S HALL (65, born van Dieman's Land) was living with her son William F HALL and his family at 26 Albert Road, Brighton, Sussex. 1901 census: William F HALL and family lived at 'Singapore' Harcourt Road, Wallington, Surrey. Elizabeth S HALL (74, born Tasmania) was head of the household. William was noted as being paralysed. By the 1911 census he was a patient in a nursing home in Norbury, SW London. His mother had died in 1910.
