    Notes
    • Claire McCormick, in her family tree at Ancestry.com, indicates that James McCormick was one of several children of Michael McCORMACK and Margaret nee CURLEY. Claire shows that Michael was born in Sepember 1788 in Westmeath, Ireland. I haven't investigated any further but it seems fairly certain that the McCORMICK family's roots were in Ireland. It also seems likely, given the childrens' dates of birth shown in Claire's tree, that Micheal McCORMACK came to England around 1818. His son James was certainly born in England after that year.

      1841 census: not found.

1851 census (as McCormic): in Overton Row, Caldewgate, Cumberland, (all McCORMICK), James (head, 28, weaver, born Carlisle, Cumberland) and Hannah (wife, 24, bobbin winder, born Carlisle, Cumberland)

1861 census: in Wigton, Cumberland (all McCORMICK), James (head, 38, blacksmih, born Carlisle, Cumberland), Amy* (wife (34, born Carlisle, Cumberland) and William (son, 3, born Wigton, Cumberland ). Also a lodger, John BELL (single, 38, joiner, born Wigton, Cumberland) and a visitor (Thomas CARRUTHERS, widower, 45, blacksmith, born Cockermouth, Cumberland).
      * this must be a mistake - James married Hannah, not Amy, GRISDALE in 1842, and GRISDALE was the maiden name of the mother of son William, born in 1858.

1871 and 1881 censuses: not found.

James's 1894 death certificate is available on Ancestry Public Member Tree owned by Alison Stephenson. James, aged 71, general labourer formerly of Wigton, died of cancer of the bowel. The informant was James E Dowie, Master of the Wigton Union Workhouse.
