May 2004: email from Janet Bureau:
I remember Dick Minter, his wife and their 2 sons Jeffrey (Geoffrey?) and Alfred.
I grew up a few doors away, in Coach Road, Great Horkesley. They were the first family we knew who had a television set, and we watched the coronation of Queen Elizabeth in their house. I am in touch with the daughter of a family who lived opposite who will remember a great deal more than I do. She has never moved away from the area, but I live in Cyprus!
May 2010 (after sending Janet Bureau's note to Pauline Taylor) - from Pauline Taylor:
"I could not believe my eyes when I saw the name of Janet Bureau. Janet was one of my closest friends when we were schoolchildren and we are still in touch, she was Janet Singleton then and I, of course, was Pauline Russell. I notice that she seems to have forgotten Doug Minter but then it was all a very long time ago. I wonder who the daughter of the family who lived opposite is, I don't remember anyone of our age who lived there but then, although I lived in Coach Road too it is a very long road and my home was nearly a mile away from Janet's. It was interesting to read that Dick had a television at the time of the coronation but I guess that it was something to do with him being an electrician, I think very few people in the village would have had a set then but I can remember being invited to the home of Sir Frederick and Lady Hall to watch the ceremony on their television as Lady Hall thought it so important that I should see it and remember it. I was certainly on my best behaviour that day and I do indeed remember it."
May 2010 - more from Pauline Taylor:
"Whilst I was searching through [my husband] Roy's notes I found a notebook that contains a diary that he kept when he was an assistant scoutmaster. This is the 'Log of 1953 Camping Tour by the !st Gt Horkesley Boy Scouts' and it includes the names of those scouts who went on the trip all along the south coast to Devon, one of those names is J Minter, so Dick's son Jeffrey must have gone together with my future husband, Roy, his father George Taylor, who was Skip the scoutmaster and my own father who just went along to help! I remember this camping trip very well as my father sent me 'wish you were' here type postcards which I still have."
