  Notes	George, 46*, wool blender, Clara, 28, Maud, 17 and Ada, 8 (all BUSH, from Yorkshire) left for Canterbury, New Zealand on 31 December 1887 on the SS Ionic. They paid £35 for the trip, as assisted emigrants. The £22.10s balance of the total cost of £57.10s was paid by the Government. They arrived in NZ on 16 February 1888. * Glenys Parton believes this age to be untrue - on his 1883 marriage certificate George's age was shown as 48. If that was accurate, George would have been about 52 by the time he left for New Zealand. I have looked for information about George and his daughter Maud, without success. Glenys Parton says that: "George Bush was widowed [when he married Clara] – had older daughters and a younger daughter Maud. We can find no death cert for George Bush – but he disappears from the scene in NZ and Clara marries for the 3rd time Axel Anderson on 15/11/1893. On this marriage certificate Clara states she is a spinster!."
