Funeral services for Rudolph Knight, 88, of Carthage, were held at 10 a.m. Sept. 20, 2004 at Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel. Bros. Wade Maberry, Pete Williams and June Taylor officiated. Burial followed in Restland Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. He died Sept. 17 at his home in Carthage.
Born March 29, 1916 in the Woods Post Office Community of Panola County, he was the son of Killis A. and Eugenia Williams Knight. He attended rural Woods Post Office schools and was reared in the Woods New Hope Baptist Church. Rudolph served the United State Army in the 411th Engineers Special Shop Battalion during World War II.
He married Emogene Minter on Sept. 5, 1946 and they celebrated 58 years together. He owned and operated Knight & Sons Welding and construction. He started the Country Music Hayride known as the "Panola County Jamboree". He loved hunting and fishing and time with family above all else. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, John Preston, Monroe Achilles and Jimmy Allen Knight.
Survivors include his loving wife, Emogene Knight, of Carthage; sons and daughters-in-law, Don Allen and Yvonne Knight, Bill Knight, and Skipper and Sheila Knight, all of Carthage; daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and James Moon, of Carthage, Tanya and Wade Maberry, of Gilmer, and Novelle Cox, of Gladewater; sister-in-law, Opal Knight, of Austin; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were Trent Moon, Brad Moon, Levi Maberry, Daniel Maberry, Roy Knight, Kirk Nichols, Tommy Nichols, Cary Nichols and Josh Knight.
The family suggests donations be made to The Texas Country Music Hall of Fame.
