Family described him as a 'real genuine Texas cowboy who rode, roped, branded cattle and was also a bull rider. No hot water, and endless riding calves and feeding cows. Melvin died from heat stroke, as noted on his death certificate. Melvin's date of death is carved into his headstone as June 14, 1962 but his death certicate gives the year as 1963, which is undoubtedly correct.
