  Notes	1850 United States Federal Census (indexed as MISTE by ancestry): in District 86, Upson, Georgia (all MINTER), John H (40, born North Carolina), Mary (31, born Alabama), Eliza (17, born Georgia), Lydia (17, born Georgia), John T (14, born Georgia), Burrell (10, born Georgia), William C (6, born Georgia), Martha F (4, born Georgia) and Asa A (1, male, born Georgia). 1860 United States Federal Census: not found. 1870 United States Federal Census: in Upson County, Georgia (all MINTER), John (60, farm), Patience (36), Lou (8, female), Bee (6, male) and Nellie or Mollie (7). The previous entry is for son Asa. Strangely, there's another 1870 census entry for a 60 year-old John Minter in Upson County: John (60, farm hand), Patie or Katie (49), Lou (12, female), Roda (10, female) and Mary (11). After this group comes another group apparently also MINTERs: Georgia (29, keeping house - but no sign of a husband or that she was a widow), Beulah (9), Willie (6), Burrel (4) and James (2). It looks as if this group is the widow and children of John Hill Minter's son Burrell, who died in the Civil War. I'm inclined to think that both the 1870 entries for 60 year-old John Minter in Upson County are actually for the same person, although that doesn't explain the discrepancies in the names and ages of the wives and children. 1880 United States Federal Census: in Flint, Upson County, Georgia (both MINTER born North Carolina), John H (70, farmer) and Patience (57, wife, keeping house). NB the age given for Patience suggests this entry might refer to the second of the 2 1860 entries above.
