From www.oakeys.com:
Curtis "PeeWee" Minter, 91 of Blue Ridge, VA, widower of Eva Rose Minter, passed away on Friday, August 28th. Born December 1, 1923 in Eden, NC, Curtis enjoyed exploring the nearby woods and eventually joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and shortly thereafter enlisted in to the US Navy. Curtis fought in World War II in the South Pacific region on the USS GREINER (DE-37). He later worked for Miller Tire in Roanoke, Virginia, followed by running his own automotive paint business until retirement. Curtis enjoyed hunting and fishing up to his last year, was an avid reader of Western novels, collecting flowers for friends and care-takers, and visiting with his family. He was grateful to the Blue Ridge library staff for keeping him well-stocked and personally delivering books. The family would like to thank Dr. Bernard Dunne, Marsha Jordan-Akers and Dr. Mitchell Horowitz as well as many other staff from the Salem VA Hospital. Their dedicated care and his stubbornness kept him going for so many years. The family is also appreciative of the care he received from Springtree Health & Rehabilitation Center and Good Samaritan Hospice.
Curtis is predeceased by his parents William "Buck" and Cora Compton Minter, his wife of over 60 years Eva Rose Minter, brothers and sisters Frank, Clifton, Thomas, Reuben, Nellie & Gracie, Geraldine M. Odell, son-in-laws Robert A. Miles and Ronald L. Lucas, and great grandchildren Scarlet and Sebastian Lucas.
He is survived by his son Vernon D. Minter (Pam Harlow) of Hardy, VA, daughters Valerie M. Lucas of Fincastle, VA and Jeanne Miles of Greensboro, NC, brother William Minter of Eden, sister Thomasina M. Cox of Chapel Hill, NC, and sister-in-law Ilene Rose of Princeton, NC. In addition, he is survived by grandchildren Mandeline L. Hetzel (John), Jason W. Lucas (Vicki), Jordan Miles (Tracy), Margaux Miles, and great grandchildren Jackson and Kyle Hetzel, Griffen and Sawyer Lucas, and Dylan Blankenship, special niece and nephew Vicki Corum & Ricky Minter. Also, Debbie Hansbrough Wilson, who he considered to be his very best friend.
Flowers are acceptable or memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018.
