- Ancestry.com have Samuel's service records in connection with his claim to WW1 pension.
He enlisted on 23 March 1910, originally in the Sherwood Foresters, then the Coldstream Guards and finally the Labour Corps. When he joined up his age was given as 21 years 11 months, a general labourer of 39 Cens Road, Plumstead, London SE, born Newhaven, Sussex. During his time in the army Samuel was in India between 18 October 1912 and 2 September 1914, France from 24 March 1915 to 29 May 1915 then 30 October 1918 and 25 April 1919. Prior to joining the army Samuel was an explosives worker at the Woolwich Ordnance Factory and between 1 December 1916 and 9 January 1917 was attached to the Nobel Explosives factory in Kilmarnock. He gave his next-of-kin as his father (name omitted) of 3 Cens Road , Plumstead.
Samuel's pension claim was based on a hernia. He was assessed to be 60% disabled by this and was awarded a pension of 5/6 a week from 25 May 1919.
1911 census: Samuel, 22, was a lieutenant corporal in the 2Bn Sherwood Forresters at Crownhill Barracks, Crownhill, Devon.

The London Gazette of 26 May 1953 reported the award of the Imperial Service Order to Samuel John Minter, labourer in the Ministry of Works.
