    Notes
    • Letter from Edna 6 Jan 2003:

Edna's husband's father, Peter, was born in Armenia in 1889 and was called Turpanjian. He went to the USA from Dikranagerd [an Ottoman period name for Diyarbakir], Armenia in, possibly, 1917-1918, maybe earlier. His brother had preceded him and others, including sister Mary came later. Many Armenians fled their homes because of the Turks slaughtering them in the 1915 genocide. [Peter and other members of his family came to America several years before 1915].

Edna says she admired Peter greatly - having to learn a new language; became a tailor, bought real estate, was a car sales owner, etc. He was typical of immigrants who come to a new country and do well.
