MINTER - June 23, at Gloucester-place, Southsea, Hants, the wife of J. M. Minter, Esq., of a son.
Found only on 1861 census, at home with parents, and 1901, visitor at 5 Tremalon Terrace, Plymouth (44, retired captain Royal Artillery) - a widower.
John married in India. His wife Martha Harris Minter died aged 43 in Q2 1897 at Tavistock.

(Gownboys) ; Left O.Q., 1872: - Joined R.A., 1876 ; served in
Afghan War, 1880; Capt., 1885; Reserve of Officers, 1876;
retired, 1896.
Died at Plymouth, 17 January, 1902.
The Times (London, England), Wednesday, Mar 24, 1880; pg. 12; Issue 29837 carried the announcement of John Surtees Minter's promotion on 23 March to Lieutenant.
J S Minter appears in the January 1893 Army List as a Captain, stationed in Delhi.
Apr 2010: John J Minter has also found records for John Surtees Minter in findmypast's Chelsea Pensioner collection showing inter alia that he was in the Army List for 1878, Royal Regiment of Artillery, possibly joined in 1876.
An entry in the London Gazette of 19 February 1901:
'Adjudications annulled'
On 18 January 1901, John Surtees Minter of 21 Walker Terrace, Plymouth, Devon, Retired Captain in Her Majesty's Army, at the court of Plymouth and East Stonehouse, had the adjudication of 2 March 1899 annulled on the grounds that 'It having been proved to the Court that all the debts of the said John Surtees Minter have been paid in full'.
