    Notes
    • Baptised as James Joshua Hardy the son of William Wells by Sophia.

From The Proceedings of the Old Bailey, 11 May 1826 at https://www.oldbaileyonline.org
James Joshua Hardy had his pocket picked on 24 April by John Coats. Coats and two others were charged with stealing one handkerchief, value 2s 6d, and he and one of the two, John Clark, were found guilty and sentenced to be transported for 14 years.

1841 census: in Picton Street, Camberwell, London (all HARDY), James (25, designer, not born in Surrey), Jane (35, not born in Surrey), James (7, born in Surrey) and Elizabeth (4, born in Surrey).

I've found no trace of the death of James Joshua Hardy, Several member trees at ancestry.com say he died in 1842 but none has any source to prove it. I thought it was possible that James's death was the one registered at Bethnal Green in Q2 1843 but although the James Hardy that this refers to was about the right age, 31, no profession is shown on the death certificate, the death occured in a Workhouse and the death was notified by the Workhouse Master, not any member of James's family. All that is certain is that James appeared in the 1841 census and that the transcript of the marriage register entry for the marriage of Jane Hardy and David Reeves on 29 November1843 describes Jane as a widow.
