  Notes	1841 census: in Herne Street, Herne, Kent, Henry EWELL (40, ag. labourer), Sarah EWELL (50), John STUPPLE (20), Henry STUPPLE (18), Esther STUPPLE (16), Phoebe STUPPLE (14), George EWELL (13) and Mary EWELL (12). Note: Henry married Sarah some time after 1829, the year in which Sarah's first husband died. The George EWELL who appeared in the 1841 census (above) would have been born about 1828, and Mary EWELL about 1829. Both might have been mothered by Sarah but it seems to me more likely that they were Henry's children by his first wife (about whom I have no information). 1851 census: in Herne Street, Herne, Kent, Henry EWELL (head, married, 49, farm labourer, born Herne, Kent), Sarah EWELL (wife, married, 60, born Ash, Kent), Ellen STUPPLE (daughter [actually step-daughter], unmarried, 34, born Chislett, Kent), Henry STUPPLE (son [actually step-son], unmarried, 29, woodman, born Herne, Kent), Phoebe BEER (granddaughter, 3, born Herne, Kent) and Louisa BEER (granddaughter, 2, born Herne, Kent). 1861 census: in Herne Street, Herne, Kent, Henry EWELL (head, married, 60, agricultural labourer, born Herne, Kent) and Sarah EWELL (wife, married, 69, born Ash, Kent). 1871 census: in Lower Herne Street, Herne, Kent, Henry EWELL (head, widower, 68, agricultural labourer, born Herne, Kent) and a domestic servant, Ellen PORT (married, 54, born Herne, Kent). Henry died before the next census.
