  Notes	Elizabeth's parents were possibly Stephen CASHFIELD and Sarah LAW, whose marriage was registered at Sheppey RD in Q3 1852 (2a/860). However, in the 1861 census, at 2 Bentley Street, Gravesend, were: William JOHNSON (head, married, 56, labourer, born Gravesend), Sarah JOHNSON (wife, married, 38, born [possibly Essex, rest unreadable]) and Elizabeth CASHFIELD (relationship to head of household not stated, 7, scholar, born Gravesend). In the 1871 census, at 3 Bentley Street, Gravesend, were William JOHNSON (head, married, 54, labourer, born Gravesend), Sarah JOHNSON (wife, married, 46, born Milton, Kent and Elizabeth JOHNSON (daughter, 18, scholar, born Milton, Kent). Despite the anomalies of ages and locations, it seems pretty certain that these three people were the same individuals in both census years. I haven't been able to work out why Elizabeth was CASHFIELD in 1861 and JOHNSON in 1871. But it appears that Elizabeth was definitely CASHFIELD - it was the name used when she married George STANTON in 1872 and it's the name shown on the enhanced birth record for her sons George and Alfred STANTON. May 2022: Neil Roswell commented as follows: "Sarah Law married Stephen Cashfield in 1852 (Sheppy) but in 1858 at Milton Gravesend she married William Johnson as a spinster (?) while William was a widower. So Sarah would be a Johnson and not a Cashfield in the 61 census. Elizabeth Cashfield father Stephen Cashfield is still alive but my records suggest he died in 1865 at Eastry but his name is transcribe as Stephen Caspell. So for the 71 census Elizabeth is in name a Johnson and (step) Daughter to William the head of house....when Elizabeth Stanton nee Cashfield husband George Stanton died in 1887 (38-39) Elizabeth married Charles William Johnson (1890 Gravesend)... coincidence or more to it ??"
