England & Wales, Criminal Registers, 1791-1892 at ancestry.com:
1869 - Henry Storey and Cyrus Johns - larceny from ship in dock - bailed.
UK, Calendar of Prisoners, 1868-1929 at ancestry.com:
At Clerkenwell, 1869 - Henry Storey (28, waterman) and Cyrus Johns (36, waterman) - charged with stealing a shirt, a bottle of pickes and other articles, value 16s., the property of Matthew Bailey. Bill ignored, discharged by proclamation (meaning that they were released without trial or verdict).
1871 census: at 81 Keetons Road, St James Bermondsey, London (all JOHNS), Cyrus (head, 38, mariner, born St George in the East), Sarah (wife, 38, born Hindon, Wiltshire), William (son, 12, born Stepney, London), Sarah (daughter, 9, born Bethnal Green, London), Eliza (daughter, 5, born Limehouse, London), Emma (daughter, 3, born Limehouse, London) and Jane (daughter, 1, born Bow, London).
I can find no trace of Cyrus in the 1881 census but it seems clear that his marriage to Sarah had ended* - at the time of the 1881 census Sarah and her daughters Eliza and Jane were living with Eli GOSSAGE. Cyrus and Sarah's daughter Emma, aged 13, was in the Merchant Seamans Orphan Asylum in Wanstead, London, and their daughter Sarah Ann, aged 19 was a kitchenmaid in a house at 78 Eccleston Square, Belgravia, London. The eldest child, William Richard, aged 23 lived at 16 Parker Row, Bermondsey with his wife and two children, one of whom was called Cyrus.
* he may of course have died but if so I can't find his death. A clue that he might have still have been alive in 1890 is that his daughter Sarah Ann's marriage certificate doesn't say 'deceased' after 'Cyrus Johns'. Interestingly, Elia GOSSAGE was a witness at Sarah Ann's wedding. Cyrus's daughter Emma married in 1896 - her marriage certificate shows 'dec' by her father Cyrus Johns' name.
So it would appear that Cyrus mat have died between 1890 and 1896.
