The Evening Chronical of Friday April 5 1940 reported on a hearing of the Concientious Objectors' Appeal Tribunal at which Gilbert George Minter's case was heard -
"The mother of another applicant before the Tribunal said that he would not eat meat or fish because it had been killed.
Sir James Baillie (chairman): 'Perhaps this is because his digestion will not stand it.'
The mother: 'No, he is really too good for this world.'
Gilbert G Minter, florist's assistant, said 'What I an willing to do is put by 1s 6d a week and try and persuade mother to put by 6d a week to buy National Savings Certificates.'
Minter was registered for non-combatant duties."
