  Notes	1871 census: Henry DOWNEY, 16, cabinet maker, born Long Melford, was one of the many people living in a lodging house at 1, 2, 3 & 4 Angel Alley, Whitechapel, London. The owner of the house in which Henry was staying was Samuel Magill. In addition to Magill and his wife the census for 1871 includes 76 people living at 1, 2, 3 & 4 Angel Alley. Angel Alley is described at www.whitechapelsociety.com as: "A narrow passage passing from Whitechapel High Street to Wentworth Street and next to George Yard on its eastern side (where Martha Tabram was murdered on 7th August 1888)." [Martha Tabram was the second of Jack the Ripper's victims, and of course, Henry had left Whitechapel by then]. 1881 census: at 8 Convent Gardens, Kensington, London (all DOWNEY), Henry (27, horsekeeper, born Long Melford), Fanny (29, born Marylebone, London) and George (son, 1, born Kensington). Henry's 1879 marriage was witnessed by a Harriet DOWNEY, Henry's sister. On the same day as George Henry DOWNEY was baptised, 11 April 1880, at the same church, All Saints, Kensington, a Harry Charles DUFFELL was baptised. His mother is shown as Harriet DOWNEY of 8 Convent Gardens, the same address as Henry & Fanny. Henry died aged 31 in 1886 and Fanny re-married in 1887. Henry's son George died aged 1 in Q2 1881.
