  Notes	1841 census: James was probably at 107 Masons (?) Court, Shoreditch, London, aged 20, a draper not born in the county of Middlesex (which then included Shoreditch). James probably married Mary Ann ROGERS on 5 February 1844 at St Giles, Cripplegate, London. The marriage register shows that James was a whalebone cutter (an occupation which might fit with working as a draper, which probably included corsets, which used whalebone as stiffening). The address of both James and Mary Ann was Salmon & Ball Court [St Luke, Middlesex]. James's father is shown as William Downey, labourer, Mary Ann's as Malachi Rogers, hawker. It's ossible that James died young. The death registered at Whitechapel (2/503) in Q1 1847 of a 27 year-old James Downey would fit. Unfortunately I've been unable to find anything to validate this. But I've found no trace of either James or Mary Ann after 1847.
