  Notes	From Stella Herbert, September 2009: William & Mary's last child was Margaret who was my gt. grandmother. Born 19th September 1858, she married my gt. grandfather William Cayless in 1882. I think they met at the Baptist Chapel in Westbourne Park, near Paddington where they were married. William's family had come to make their fortunes in London from Loughborough and settled by the canal basin. Margaret had been sent to stay with her aunt at the dairy the aunt ran close to Paddington Station. According to her daughter she was so shocked when her mother remarried after her father's death to a man 25 years younger than herself that she never saw her mother again. I think the truth was likely to be financial as well. The aunt - it was actually the uncle who was the blood relative, her mother's brother - had lost her daughter and probably wanted consolation - and a hand in the dairy! And the new husband was taking on quiite a tribe of Mary Ann's offspring by William so it made sense to scatter a few! At any rate it was Margaret who registered her mother's death so she must have returned to Suffolk at least once. Apparently when she was sent to London aged 12, she was put on the train at Woodbridge, never having seen a train before. Was she thrilled, scared? I wonder how they made the arrangements before telephones and I doubt that her mother could write and I know her father couldn't as he was briefly in Ipswich Gaol and the charge sheet says he was illiterate. The days of the carrier I suppose.
