  Notes	1851 census: at 44 New Street, St Nicholas, Greenwich, Robert (35, waterman & lighterman), Susan (24), Mary Alice (3, scholar) and Emily Sarah (1). 1861 census: at Pagoda, 95 Bermondsey Road, Bermondsey, Robert (45, licensed victualler), Sarah (44), Alice (13, scholar), Emily (11, scholar), Maude (9, scholar), Ruth (7, scholar) and Robert (1). Listed in the Post Office Directory 1861 as Robert Minter, 'Pagoda' PH, 95 Bermondsey New Road, London SE. It's not clear whether Susan and Sarah were the same person. In both censuses the birthplace was given in Greenwich but not only are the names different but so are the implied birth years, by 10 years. There is no trace of a marriage of Robert that might fit either case. However, since the name Susan reappeared in 1871, aged 54, we can probably assume that Robert had only one wife, Susan, born about 1816 in Greenwich (or Blackheath according to the 1871 census). May 2007: According to Julie Virtue, Susan's surname was GILLETT but still no trace of her marriage to Robert. December 2007: Julie Virtue has found the marriage of Robert and Susan GILLETT: Q1 1844. Listed in the Post Office Directory 1870 as Robert Minter, 'Grundy Arms' PH, 83 Grundy Street, Poplar, London E. 1871 census: at the Grundy Arms, 83 St Grundy Street, Poplar, London, Robert (56, publican), Susan (54), Emily (20), Maude (16), Ruth (13) and Frederick (11, scholar). 1881 census: at the Merry Cricketers, Lower Road, Deptford, Robert (66, licensed victualler), Susan (65), Maude (26), Ruth (25) and Frederick (11, barman). Also married daughter Emily SUFFIELD (30) and her three children Florence SUFFIELD (2), Frederick SUFFIELD (2) and Alfred SUFFIELD (7 months). Listed in the Post Office Directory 1881 & 1884 as Robert Minter, 'Merry Cricketers' PH, 276 Deptford Lower Road, London SE. 1891 census: at 17 Beresford Road, Northfleet, Kent, Robert (75, retired publican), Susan (74), Frederick (31, publican) and grandson Alfred SUFFIELD (10, scholar). 1901 census: at 17 Beresford Road, Northfleet, Kent, Robert (now a widower, 85, living on own means) England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations),1861-1941 (at Ancestry.co.uk, Nov 2010): MINTER Robert of 17 Beresford-road Northfleet Kent died 3 Jun 1904 Probate London 15 June 1904 to Robert George Frederick Minter licensed-victualler Effects £1786 2s 7d. April 2007: contact from Robert's great great granddaughter, Julie Virtue, who lives in Tenterfield, New South Wales. October 2008: Julie has obtained Robert's death certificate. It shows his occupation as Licensed Victualler (retired) and cause of death senile decay. The death was registered under MINDER.

The above is conformed by the Parish Register in the London Metropolitan Archive at Ancestry.co.uk, December 2009. Witnesses were William Smithers and Catherine Amelia Cosens.
